Overview
Skyline Agriculture Financial Corp. (‘Skyline’) is a Canadian financial institution specifically created to help finance the next generation of farmers, and, as it relates to Saskatchewan to ensure Canadians continue to own and operate the province’s farmland as a significant intergenerational land transfer unfolds over the next decade.
Our Goal
With the assistance of local farmers, Skyline was developed to provide growers with a more flexible and effective financing solution than the market place currently offers. In particular, farmers wanted greater opportunities to more quickly and efficiently acquire additional farmland, expand their operations, and fully benefit from added economies of scale.
By providing qualified farmers with a unique blend of lending and hedging services, Skyline can help farmers to achieve these goals and successfully leverage their farm management expertise over a more optimally sized operation. As part of this strategy, farmers will hedge, as applicable, a range of farming related risks including risk of exposure to land values as well as mortgage loan costs, including interest. Such a hedging strategy allows the farmer to more effectively expand their operations and reap the many benefits inherent in farming additional acres that they own and control.
Skyline’s financing activities will play an important role in helping to transition farmland from the current generation to the next, and in retaining and attracting quality farmers to the jurisdictions in which it does business.
Our Approach
We believe that Skyline’s financing activities should have a positive material impact to crop production, agricultural exports, overall sector revenues, and in retaining and attracting quality farmers to the province.
Benefits To Farmers
We believe that our form of financing is superior to that of conventional financing options currently available in the marketplace and offers the farming community many significant benefits.
